Orion and the Dark

November 27, 2020

We have had a WONDERFUL week in Year Two this week. The children in Robins, Skylarks and Swifts have been working very hard throughout the week and they have made their teachers feel very proud!

Our book focus this week was ‘Orion and the Dark’. In the story Orion overcomes his fear of the dark and goes on a monster catching adventure. We were inspired to write our own instructions to catch a monster. The children applied their knowledge of time connectives and imperative verbs to write some super instructions. If your child would like to write some instructions on how to make their favourite sandwich then here is a sheet to help How to make a sandwich

In Maths we have been subtracting two 2-digit numbers without regrouping. We practised different strategies and experimented to find our preferred method. Ask you children to explain to you how they would solve this number sentence using the number line method or the column method:

87 – 32 =

Subtracting without regrouping

In Topic we have been thinking about compassionate citizenship and what makes someone a compassionate citizen. We have also been thinking about our friendships and the qualities we look for in our friendships. During our Science learning we have continued to explore the properties of different materials. What a busy week!

Next week:

English: Instruction writing- ‘how to make a dream jar’. Please can all children bring a clean jar into school by next Tuesday so they can make their own dream jar.

Maths: Solving possibility problems and adding two 2-digit numbers with regrouping.

Topic: Continuing to explore and experiment with the properties of materials.

Thank you Year 2 for a fabulous week!
