What a great week of learning in Year 2! This week we started exploring our new topic and imagining what it would be like to be explorers!

English

We immersed ourselves in learning new vocabulary from Quayside Cat. We role played the story, sequenced the events and wrote labels and captions for different pictures from the story while focusing on capital letters and full stops. If you would like to do some extra practice click

Writing sentences using the five senses

Maths

In Maths we have been partitioning numbers under ten. We have been learning all about the commutative law and investigating different ways to make 1 digit numbers.

Maths independent sheets

The children thoroughly enjoyed observing, smelling and tasting a variety of apples in our TastEd lesson this week, with lots of children trying it for the first time.

Next Week

In English, we will be focusing on a picture book called Journey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxUs41jB4Ts. The children will be building on their knowledge of labels and captions and using their imagination to predict what happens in the story.

In Maths, we will be partitioning 10 and starting addition with three addends.  The children will have a chance to investigate different equations using a variety of resources.

In Science, we will be learning about the different weather symbols with a focus on ‘adopting a tree’ to observe throughout the year.

We will start giving reading records with books to read from next week. It would be great if you could read daily with your child and comment in their reading records as this will help us support them further in school. Please can these be returned by Friday so we have time to change them and give out by Tuesday of the following week.

We are also trying out a buddy system with the Year 5 children coming to read with Year 2 classes! We are really excited and are sure this will promote reading for pleasure further.

Key information
