We have had a brain stretching week in Year 2! In English we began our new unit on ‘Instructions’ with a Philosophy for Children (P4C) session discussing ‘What would life be like if we didn’t have any instructions?’
Answers ranged from ‘we’d be able to do whatever we’d like’ to ‘there would be chaos…maybe even civil war’ to ‘the brain is always giving our body instructions’. Wow!
We have been using the hilarious book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ as inspiration for our instruction writing.
In Maths, we have been doing more deep thinking. We have been exploring the concept of subtraction as both ‘take away’ but also ‘difference’ and have been using this to help us work with practical and mental methods.
Perhaps most excitingly, we welcomed the Fire Service to school. We recreated The Great Fire of London, burning the houses we made for Pudding Lane and making scientific observations about how the fire spread!
Maths – keep practising your subtraction!
Spellings – adding ‘ly’ to words
Coming up next week:
- Instruction writing based on the fantastic book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’.
- Consolidating and deepening our understanding about addition and subtraction.
- Some super science and a ‘Mad Science’ assembly.
- Family Friday! (8th December: 8.30-9.15). We would love to welcome you back to our classrooms so the children can share their learning with you.
Have a great weekend everyone.
