This week in English we have been learning about informal letters, inspired by the fabulous book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. We wrote letters to Year 2 imagining we were Red, Yellow and Orange Crayon, complaining about how much we had been used during our ‘Fire Fire!’ topic this half term!
In Maths, we have been have practicing adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers together without regrouping. We explored different methods, including using dienes, number lines and the column method.
See practice sheets here: Maths sheets
In Phonics, this week we have exploring how ‘g’ often comes before ‘e, i and y’ (e.g. gem, magic) whereas ‘j’ often comes before ‘a, o and u’ (e.g. jog, jacket). Can you think of other words where these rules apply?
In Science we helped Little Mouse find a suitable waterproof material to help him fix his leaking roof. We made predictions first and then tested them to see our predictions were accurate. Some of us were quite surprised by the results!
- Maths: Addition and subtraction with regrouping.
- English: Instruction writing inspired by a rather fun book. (WARNING! Large mammals may be involved…)
