A short list of words to describe our Year Two children: amazing, brilliant and super!

September 20, 2019

Thank you to the children in Robins, Skylarks and Swifts for another wonderful week. This week we have hit the ground running in terms of curriculum content: list and labels a plenty in English. We were inspired by the picture book ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. The beautiful illustrations were perfect for us to practise writing labels and lists!

In Maths, we started our learning about equal to, greater than and less than. We played games with dice to decide who had greater or less than. Below are the practice pages we used in class. Feel free to practice again at home.

The children impressed us during Phonics with their knowledge of phase 5 digraphs and high frequency words. We began to explore the spelling pattern ‘tion’ at the end of words such as addition and potion. The children were able to read words containing this new pattern- a big well done!

Thank you to all of those who came to our curriculum evening. It was so great to see so many engaged parents and we are excited to learn and work with you this year. As promised, please find below the powerpoint with the information and a list of common exception words to use at home.

In our playful enquiry sessions, we enjoyed playing trust games, making Columbus’ ships, and of course, because it is National Coding Week, coding our Bee-Bots to go on special adventures!

Next week

We will be focusing on caption writing in our English lessons, a big focus for all children will be the correct use of capital letters and full stops.

In Maths we will be learning about the parts of 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Our Topic learning will focus on learning and locating the continents.

 Other reminders

  •  Reading books to be returned back to school no later than Thursday. Books will be changed on Thursday and we have timetables for them to be changed on this day so if late or not returned the children may have to wait for the following week.
  •  PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please note that PE kits are still required – not all children have them so please do bring them in as PE is a statutory lesson.
  •  Please help to support your children’s independence skills by saying goodbye to them in their class lines on a morning- thank you to those families who are already doing this.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year Two Team.
