Forest School, Stick Insects and Book Day

March 1, 2018

We had a snowy forest school this week.. When we start, we take a little time for the nature to get used to us..

This week we made a home for an animal and talked about our design choices.

A special visitor Dr Gillis came to start our new Science Stick Insect Project with the first Year 2 group who got to hold the insects and learn all about them. Here is a sneak preview:

We got so involved in our books on World Book Day that we had to cancel other lessons to enjoy reading more. We got to buddy up with Dragonflies too, and loved talking about and sharing our favourite books.

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions and using our maths talk to reason “this shows a quarter because there is 1 of 4 equal parts here”. Challenge for the week: can you explain why 2/4 is equal to 1/2? Here are some practice questions: W2 Fractions

Spellings

We enjoyed this learning game (part 2) to help us learn our focus spellings on when we use apostrophes for contraction. Can you master them all?

Safeguarding

The government has launched an ABC Child Protection Campaign which gives information about what you can do if you are worried about the well-being and safety of a child:

A parent has brought to our attention that a few parents may not be aware of the rules regarding travelling with children in a car. We hope this link is useful. https://www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules
